Elastic wave
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001262
A wave that propagates through a material by causing temporary deformation of the medium, with the material returning to its original state after the wave passes. In geophysics, these are primarily P-waves (compressional waves) and S-waves (shear waves), which travel through the Earth's subsurface. The velocities of elastic waves are dependent on the rock's elastic properties and density.
