Elasticity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004310

The physical property of a material that allows it to deform reversibly under stress and return to its original shape when the stress is removed. In reservoir rocks, elasticity governs how seismic waves propagate through the subsurface, providing information about rock type, porosity, and fluid content. It is quantified by elastic moduli such as bulk modulus and shear modulus.
