Young's modulus

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004194

A measure of the stiffness of an elastic material, quantifying its resistance to elastic deformation under uniaxial stress. It is defined as the ratio of stress to strain in the elastic region of deformation. In rock mechanics, Young's modulus is derived from laboratory tests or sonic logs and is used to characterize the mechanical properties of reservoir rocks, influencing hydraulic fracturing design.
