Modulus of rigidity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002414
A measure of a material's resistance to being deformed by shearing forces, quantifying its stiffness when subjected to a force parallel to one of its faces. Also known as the shear modulus, this elastic property is calculated by dividing the applied shear stress by the resulting shear strain. In geophysics, it is a key parameter for determining the velocity of S-waves through rock formations and is expressed in units of pressure like gigapascals (GPa).
