Shear strain
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003362
A measure of the deformation of a material caused by forces acting parallel to a surface, resulting in a change in shape without a change in volume. It is quantified as the tangent of the angle of deformation. In geology, shear strain is common in fault zones and ductile shear zones.
