Strain
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003635
The deformation of a rock body in response to applied stress, expressed as a change in shape or volume. It is a dimensionless quantity, often measured as a percentage or a ratio of change in length to original length. Geologists analyze strain to understand the tectonic forces that have affected rock formations over geological time.
