Stress

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003647

The internal force per unit area within a rock body that results from external forces acting on it. It can be compressive, tensile, or shear, leading to deformation or failure of the rock. Geologists measure stress in pascals (Pa) or pounds per square inch (psi) to understand rock mechanics and predict subsurface behavior.
