Yield stress
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004191
The minimum shear stress required to initiate flow in a non-Newtonian fluid, such as a drilling mud, after it has been at rest. It represents the force needed to overcome the internal structure of the fluid. A sufficient yield stress is necessary to suspend drill cuttings and weighting materials when circulation stops, and it is measured in pounds per 100 square feet.
