Yield point
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004190
The stress level at which a material begins to deform plastically, meaning it undergoes permanent deformation without a further increase in stress. In drilling fluids, it represents the minimum shear stress required to initiate flow after the fluid has been at rest. This property is measured in pounds per 100 square feet (lb/100 ft²) and indicates the fluid's ability to suspend cuttings.
