Rheological property
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003156
A characteristic of a fluid that describes its flow and deformation under stress. For drilling fluids, key rheological properties include viscosity, gel strength, and yield point, which collectively determine the fluid's ability to carry cuttings, suspend solids, and manage downhole pressures. These properties are measured on the rig site using a rotational viscometer and are adjusted with additives to meet specific drilling conditions.
