Viscosity and gel-strength test
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004053
A standard procedure to measure the flow properties of a drilling fluid using a direct-indicating viscometer, also known as a rheometer. The test measures the fluid's resistance to flow (viscosity) at several rotational speeds and its ability to suspend solids when static (gel strength) after 10 seconds and 10 minutes. These measurements are used to calculate plastic viscosity, yield point, and gel strengths, which are recorded in the daily mud report.
