Viscosity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004052

A fluid's internal resistance to flow, resulting from intermolecular friction. In drilling operations, it influences the fluid's ability to transport drill cuttings to the surface and to suspend solids when circulation stops. Viscosity is measured in centipoise (cP) or as Marsh funnel seconds per quart, and it is a key parameter for wellbore cleaning and stability.
