Apparent viscosity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000165
A measure of a drilling fluid's resistance to flow under specific shear rate conditions, calculated by dividing the shear stress by the shear rate. For a Newtonian fluid, it is constant, but for non-Newtonian drilling fluids, it varies with shear rate. It is typically reported in centipoise (cP) and is a key parameter for evaluating mud pumpability and hole cleaning efficiency.
