non-Newtonian fluid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002559
A fluid whose viscosity changes with the applied shear rate, meaning its flow behavior is not directly proportional to shear stress. Most drilling fluids are non-Newtonian, exhibiting shear-thinning or shear-thickening properties. Their rheological models, such as Bingham Plastic or Power Law, describe their complex flow characteristics.
