Yield stress
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012777
The shear stress at which a material that behaves as a solid under smaller stresses begins to yield and flow. Below it the deformation is elastic and recovers, and above it flow sets in. The measured value depends on the criterion chosen to decide that yielding has started. Bingham plastics, pastes and concentrated suspensions show a yield stress.
