Stress relaxation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011475
The time-dependent decrease in stress within a material when it is subjected to a constant strain. This occurs as molecular rearrangements or viscous flow mechanisms dissipate the stored elastic energy over time. Stress relaxation is a characteristic viscoelastic property of polymers and is measured by monitoring the stress decay at a fixed deformation.
