Plastic flow

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009025

The irreversible deformation of a material under stress, where the material undergoes permanent changes in shape without fracturing. This occurs when the applied stress exceeds the material's yield strength, causing atomic planes to slide past each other. Plastic flow is a characteristic property of ductile materials, such as metals, at temperatures below their melting point.
