Bingham flow

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001232

A type of non-Newtonian fluid behavior where the fluid behaves as a rigid body at low stresses but flows as a viscous fluid once a certain yield stress is exceeded. Below this yield stress, the material deforms elastically without flowing. Many suspensions, such as drilling muds and toothpaste, exhibit Bingham plastic behavior.
