Rheology

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013508

The science studying the deformation and flow of matter, particularly liquids and soft solids that exhibit complex mechanical responses. It investigates the relationship between the stress applied to a material and the resulting strain or strain rate. Rheology is especially concerned with non-Newtonian fluids like polymers, suspensions, and emulsions, whose viscosity changes under different flow conditions.
