Consistency

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002461

The property of a material that describes its resistance to deformation by a mechanical force, particularly for substances that are neither ideal solids nor ideal fluids. It is a qualitative term for a material's firmness or viscosity, encompassing properties like hardness, softness, and stickiness. In rheology, consistency is quantitatively described by parameters derived from flow curves, such as the consistency index in the power-law model for non-Newtonian fluids.
