Plasmon

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009024

A quantum of plasma oscillation, representing a collective excitation of free electrons in a metal or semiconductor. These oscillations occur at a characteristic frequency and can be excited by incident electromagnetic radiation or energetic electrons. Surface plasmons, which propagate along metal-dielectric interfaces, are particularly relevant in surface science and nanotechnology.
