Plasma
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009005
A state of matter consisting of an ionized gas, containing a substantial fraction of free electrons and ions, alongside neutral atoms or molecules. This highly energetic state is formed when a gas is heated to extreme temperatures or subjected to strong electromagnetic fields, causing atoms to lose electrons. Plasmas exhibit collective behavior due to long-range electromagnetic forces and are found in stars, lightning, and fluorescent lamps.
