Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002048

  1. An ionized gas consisting of a collection of charged particles, including ions and electrons, that behaves collectively under the influence of electromagnetic forces. In atmospheric science, plasma is found in the ionosphere and magnetosphere, where solar radiation ionizes atmospheric gases. Phenomena like auroras are visible manifestations of plasma interactions in Earth's upper atmosphere.

  2. Any ionized gas; that is, any gas containing ions and electrons.
