Protonosphere
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008187
The uppermost region of the ionosphere, beginning at an altitude of about 1000 kilometers, where protons (hydrogen ions) are the dominant positive ion. This layer extends outward to merge with the interplanetary plasma of the solar wind. The protonosphere acts as a plasma reservoir, exchanging particles with the underlying F-region of the ionosphere.
