Gyro-frequency

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006140

The angular frequency at which a charged particle, such as an electron or ion, orbits a magnetic field line under the influence of the Lorentz force. This frequency is directly proportional to the strength of the magnetic field and the particle's charge-to-mass ratio. Also known as the cyclotron frequency, it is a key parameter in the study of plasma physics, the ionosphere, and the behavior of particles within Earth's magnetosphere.
