Cyclotron frequency

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004838

The frequency at which a charged particle, such as an electron or ion, orbits a magnetic field line in a uniform magnetic field. This phenomenon is observed in the ionosphere and magnetosphere, where particles from the solar wind are influenced by Earth's magnetic field. The frequency is directly proportional to the magnetic field strength and the particle's charge, and inversely proportional to the particle's mass.
