Plasmapause

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007973

The outer boundary of the plasmasphere, marking a sharp decrease in the density of cold plasma in the Earth's magnetosphere. This boundary is dynamic, responding to changes in solar wind conditions and geomagnetic activity. It typically lies at an altitude of 4 to 6 Earth radii in the equatorial plane.
