Outer layer

The outermost stratum of a fluid or gaseous system, often characterized by direct interaction with its external environment. In atmospheric science, this can refer to the upper parts of the planetary boundary layer, which are influenced by surface processes but also by free atmospheric dynamics. It can also describe the exosphere as the outermost layer of Earth's atmosphere.
