Concentric eyewall cycle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004569
A process observed in intense tropical cyclones where an outer eyewall forms and contracts, eventually replacing the original inner eyewall. This cycle often leads to a temporary weakening of the storm as the inner eyewall dissipates, followed by re-intensification as the new eyewall fully develops. The process can take several days to complete and is a key factor in the intensity fluctuations of major hurricanes.
