Secondary bands

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008735

Concentric or spiral cloud features that develop within the outer rainbands of a tropical cyclone, distinct from the primary eyewall. These bands are associated with localized areas of enhanced convection and precipitation, often forming and dissipating as the storm evolves. Their presence can indicate changes in the storm's structure or intensity, providing additional information for forecasting.
