Concentric eyewalls

Two or more distinct, nearly circular bands of intense convection and strong winds that surround the center of a powerful tropical cyclone. The inner eyewall typically weakens as the outer eyewall strengthens and contracts, a process known as an eyewall replacement cycle. This phenomenon is characteristic of very intense hurricanes and typhoons.
