Principal band
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008150
A prominent absorption or emission band in the electromagnetic spectrum of a molecule, corresponding to a fundamental vibrational or rotational transition. These bands are characterized by their intensity and position, providing key information about the molecular structure and composition of atmospheric gases. For example, carbon dioxide has a strong principal absorption band at 15 micrometers.
