Principal components analysis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008151
A statistical technique used to reduce the dimensionality of large datasets by transforming a set of correlated variables into a smaller set of uncorrelated variables called principal components. This method identifies the dominant patterns of variability within meteorological fields, such as sea-level pressure or temperature. The first principal component accounts for the largest possible variance in the original data.
