Regression

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008494

A statistical method used to model the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables. In meteorology, it is applied to tasks like forecasting temperature based on factors such as time of day, cloud cover, and air mass characteristics, or for calibrating model output. A common application is Model Output Statistics (MOS), which uses regression to correct systematic biases in numerical weather prediction models.
