Perfect prognosis method
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007847
A statistical forecasting technique that develops a relationship between observed predictands (e.g., surface temperature) and observed predictors (e.g., upper-air atmospheric variables) from a historical dataset. This statistical relationship is then applied to the output of a numerical weather prediction model to generate a forecast. The method assumes that the statistical relationship between observed variables remains valid for model-predicted variables.
