Statistical forecast
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009235
A weather prediction generated by applying statistical relationships derived from historical meteorological data to current atmospheric conditions. These forecasts often use regression equations or other statistical models to relate predictors (like current temperature or pressure) to predictands (like future temperature or precipitation). Model Output Statistics (MOS) is a common technique for generating these forecasts.
