Statistical independence

A condition where the occurrence of one event or variable does not influence the probability of another event or variable occurring. In atmospheric science, this concept is applied when analyzing relationships between different meteorological phenomena or when sampling data. For example, daily temperature readings from widely separated locations might be considered statistically independent.
