Chi-square test

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004280

A statistical hypothesis test used to determine if there is a statistically meaningful difference between observed frequencies and expected frequencies in one or more categories. In meteorology, it can be applied to assess the goodness of fit of a theoretical distribution to observed weather data, or to test for independence between two categorical variables, such as cloud type and precipitation occurrence. The test statistic follows a chi-square distribution.
