Random numbers
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010714
A sequence of numbers in which each number is statistically independent of the others and each has an equal probability of occurring within a specified range. In atmospheric science, these are used in Monte Carlo simulations, statistical sampling, and for initializing perturbations in ensemble forecasting. True random numbers are difficult to generate, so pseudorandom number generators are often employed.
