Pseudorandom numbers
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008196
Sequences of numbers that appear to be random but are generated by a deterministic algorithm. These numbers are produced by a mathematical formula, starting from an initial seed value, making the sequence reproducible if the seed is known. In atmospheric science, they are used in numerical models for Monte Carlo simulations, stochastic parameterizations, and generating initial perturbations for ensemble forecasts.
