Tropical cyclone seed

A pre-existing disturbance in the atmosphere that has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone. This can be a cluster of thunderstorms, a tropical wave, or a mesoscale convective system. The presence of a 'seed' is a necessary but not sufficient condition for tropical cyclogenesis.
