Recurving tropical cyclone

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008458

A tropical cyclone that has transitioned from a westward track in the tropics to a poleward and then eastward track as it enters the mid-latitudes. This change in motion occurs as the storm's steering flow shifts from the subtropical ridge to the mid-latitude westerlies. During this process, the cyclone may undergo extratropical transition, changing its structure from a warm-core to a cold-core system.
