Recurvature

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008457

The process by which a tropical cyclone, which initially moves westward, changes its track to a north-northeast or northward direction and then accelerates toward the east. This change in direction occurs when the cyclone moves into the mid-latitude westerly wind belt and interacts with an approaching trough. The point of recurvature is the latitude at which the storm's track becomes primarily eastward.
