T-year event
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009859
A meteorological or hydrological event, such as a flood or rainfall storm, of a magnitude that is statistically expected to be equaled or exceeded on average once every T years. The recurrence interval T is the reciprocal of the annual exceedance probability; for example, a 100-year event has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. This statistical measure is used in engineering design, risk assessment, and floodplain management to characterize the severity of extreme events.
