Exceedance interval

The average period of time between occurrences of an event that exceeds a specified threshold or magnitude. It is the reciprocal of the exceedance probability for a given event. For example, a 100-year flood has an exceedance interval of 100 years, meaning it is expected to occur, on average, once every century.
