Exceedance probability
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005495
The likelihood that a specific meteorological or hydrological event, such as a certain rainfall amount or wind speed, will be equal to or greater than a defined threshold within a given period. It is expressed as a fraction or percentage. For instance, a 1% exceedance probability for a daily rainfall total means there is a 1 in 100 chance of that amount being met or surpassed on any given day.
