Flood interval

The average period of time between flood events of a specified magnitude at a particular location, also known as the return period or recurrence interval. For example, a 100-year flood interval indicates that a flood of that magnitude has a 1% chance of occurring in any given year. This statistical measure is used in flood risk management and engineering design.
