Independence

A statistical property where the occurrence of one event does not affect the probability of another event. In atmospheric science, this concept is applied when analyzing time series data or spatial patterns of meteorological variables. For example, daily rainfall amounts in one region might be considered independent of those in a distant, unrelated region.
