Inner layer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006559

The region of the atmospheric boundary layer closest to the Earth's surface, where turbulent eddies are directly influenced by surface roughness and shear stress. This layer is characterized by strong vertical gradients of wind speed, temperature, and humidity. Within the inner layer, the flow is often described by similarity theories, such as the Monin-Obukhov similarity theory.
