Energy-containing eddies
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005378
Turbulent eddies in a fluid flow that contain the majority of the kinetic energy within the turbulent spectrum. These eddies are responsible for the primary transfer of energy from the mean flow into the turbulent cascade. Their size is comparable to the integral length scale of the turbulence, which is often related to the scale of the flow domain or boundary layer height.
